how to stay motivated in school – my favorite tips
Whether you love school or hate school, it can be hard to stay motivated. Over the years I have tried different techniques to keep me on track – here’s my favorites and how they help.
Romanticising school – I have seen hundreds of videos with “perfect” school aesthetics, waking up early, making a healthy breakfast, cleaning your room, working out, having a perfect outfit, etc. Watching these videos seems so motivational and maybe you have attempted a routine like this before, but for most people that isn’t a reality.
- Set Aside Time For Yourself
Instead of trying to switch up your whole routine, start with the little things. Set your alarms 15 minutes earlier than normal to incorporate some “me” time. This is one of my favorite tips, spending some extra time for yourself can set the tone for your whole day. You decide what you want to do with these few extra minutes. For some, maybe it’s making a nice breakfast, doing morning meditations or maybe it’s as simple as spending some extra time on your hair or makeup, which brings me into my next tip.
Look good, feel good. Take that extra time for yourself, pick out a cute outfit, do your hair, do your makeup or whatever makes you confident. This is such a small change but makes a huge difference.
- Choose Your Aesthetics
Buy cute supplies. If you love pink – buy the pink folders, buy the pink case and pencils. You have limited control over what you can do, so make the changes where you can!
- Give Yourself A Break
One of my biggest tips is controversial, in the sense that not everyone has this option, and if you don’t have the option there are a few ways to go around it.
Take breaks. If you need a day off, take it. If you can’t go to your math class, don’t go. I am not telling you to ditch every class and do what you want, but mental health is something I take very seriously. If you are struggling or feeling drained- you are not a failure for missing a class. (disclaimer- if you are struggling with mental health there are resources out there for you, this is not professional advice, just sharing things I did to help me.)
- Organize Your Workload
Another common question is “how to stay motivated during school?” or “how to stay motivated to do your school work”
There are so many different tips and tricks that you can find, it is just a matter of finding the right ones that apply to you.
I tried the notebooks, the calendars and the planners, and they would work for a few weeks but ultimately wouldn’t stick. If a planner works for you – that’s great! The only thing that I have found that has stuck is Notion. It’s a free app or online website where you can create your own assignment trackers, keep track of your lectures and notes and more. Everything is organized and it’s easy to keep up with what I need to do and how long I have to do it. Another amazing option is google sheets, there you can create an assignment tracker and organize all your work.
- De-Stress Your Environment
Making your environment cozy is so huge, especially when you’re doing homework or catching up. It might sound cliche but I have found it so much more relaxing to do homework when my room or desk is clean, organized and cozy. Light a candle, turn on music or a show in the background, have a clean slate.
There are so many more ways to help relax yourself and stay on track with your school work but these are a few tips that have helped me tremendously and I hope they can help you as well!
